Uncovering progress in FOSS-based archeology

Uncovering progress in FOSS-based archeology is a report about which Free/Open Source software is more popular among archeologists and of which archeologists, especially in Europe, are starting to actively promote the same software and a more open approach to research.

The article also points out at a problem in archeology (but the same is true for any other field of science) which is much more serious than lack of specialized Free Software: the fact that the raw field data is very seldom “Free as in Freedom”, either because they’re locked in proprietary format or because (even worst) they’re not released at all.
